I Did It!!!

                              (flowers from last year's garden)

Although the weather where I live isn't yet warm and sunny the way I like it, the calendar assures me it is now spring.  With the long month of March in its final day, winter 2011/2012 is really a thing of the past; while it is always an accomplishment for me to get through the gray, gloomy months of my least favorite season, this year, I have cause to celebrate for another reason---for successfully meeting the blog challenge I set for myself back in November.

Some of you may remember that it was on November 9th that I shared with my blog readers my intention to challenge myself by writing a movie review here at They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To every single day all winter long.  Having to do something which required creativity, thought, and discipline was my way of focusing on something other than how much I hate cold, wind, snow, and barren trees.  Writing every day gave me a chance to keep my creative juices flowing at a time when they are normally at an all-time low.

So, here we are at the end of March, and I have to report that I was very successful with my endeavor.  November saw me exceeding the goal (with 33 posts); December, January, February, and March each found me between 1 and 3 posts away from having a post every single day.  Despite being a bit short most of the months, I am beyond satisfied with how I met the challenge.  In fact, I loved doing it so much that I intend to keep it up...a movie review every day of the year...or at least as near to every day as I can.  Don't worry, you don't have to read them on a daily basis (I know how busy we all are); with my "films reviewed" page, you can look at my blog somewhat like an online classic movie guide.  If you're wondering about a certain movie and want to know what it's about or what my thoughts are about it, just pop by HERE and see if that film is one I've reviewed.

That said, I'm leaving next week for a trip to Florida (sunshine and warmth!!).  While I have many reviews already set to post, I won't be back to my daily (or near daily) reviews for a couple of weeks.

Anyhow, my dear classic movie lovin' friends, I thank you for being faithful readers of my blog---and, thus, supporters of an endeavor which really kept me sane during the always-long winter!

Happy viewing!!

    1. Thanks for your support and encouragement, Bonnie.

And, yes, it is definitely going to be hot. I was talking to my sister-in-law this morning, and she said 90's this week. Can you hear me saying, "YES!!!"

  4. Good for you!! I have certainly appreciated all your reviews :o) I have to smile at how much we have in common: love vintage, born the same year, former home schoolers who miss it, wear dresses every day LOL! I found it interesting that more people didn't dress up for the "Casablanca" movie! Although, my husband and I and another couple went to a theater showing of "It's a Wonderful Life" last Christmas and we were the only ones dressed up in a standing room only crowd. We dressed vintage 1940's and got a lot of stares! It was great fun! Have a wonderful trip and enjoy the warmth! Dee

    1. Dee, I got a little panicked when I read your comment. I thought, "How do any of my blog readers (who aren't also FB friends) know the year I was born?" Then I remembered my Donna Reed birthday post. I'm guessing that's how you know.

How fun to meet another "loved my homeschooling years" mom. Hard work, yes, but very worth it, right?

And, wow, a theatre showing of "It's a Wonderful Life." That had to be such fun. "Casablanca" is the only classic film I've ever seen on the big screen. I love that y'all dressed in vintage style. There is such glamour in those vintage clothes. People don't know what they're missing!!

  6. Congratulations, Patti!!! I'm SO glad it's spring, too - although you'd never know it today as it's cold, grey and gloomy. BUT, suppose to be back up to 71 tomorrow! Yea!! I'm so happy to hear you're continuing with your movie reviews. I love your blog!! Have a great time on your trip!
    Hugs, Cindy

You have unearthed a few for me as well..."The Bigamist" being one huge treasure. Had you not recommended it, I may not have discovered it for years...if ever!

There are many wonderful blogs out there in blogland---and so little time to read them all. Therefore, I am truly humbled that you took the time to not only stop by my little place in the blogosphere, but to share your thoughts as well. Thank you for visiting...and for commenting. I hope your visit here was enjoyable and that you will return again soon.
